LIAM CONNON PICKS UP SCOTTISH RESERVE LEAGUE CUP MEDAL; HASTINGS RELEGATED

Liam Connon: Source: Ross Co Official SiteWith the disappointing news that Canuck prospect and former U20 player David Edgar had been relegated on Wednesday 13th May, Ajax (ON) native Liam Connon and his Ross County team mates defeated Queens Park 3-1 in the Scottish Reserve League Cup Final to bring CA some good news from abroad.
The 18 year old was one of three U19 squad players in the starting XI for County's reserve side as he lined up at left back. It was a case of in at the deep end for the youngster as it was his first ever start for the reserve side.
Goals from Lawson, Scott and Grant sealed the result but it went all the way to extra time. Connon was on the field for the full game.
Although it's a far cry from tomorrow's Champion's League Final, Connon was clearly pleased with the result and that he had "managed to get first medal with a pro team". Indeed - you have to start somewhere and for the 18 year old, it's a good accomplishment so early in his career.
Congratulations from us here at CA and here's hoping that Liam can establish himself in the reserves next year and maybe even push for a first team appearance as he continues his development in the Scottish 1st division where he could potentially face off against Richard Hastings whose Inverness Caley side were relegated at the weekend.

It was a tough break for Hastings and his Caley side as results conspired against them to send them down despite St Mirren losing at home to Hamilton Accies as they were consigned by goal difference. Whether the Canadian international is still plying his trade at Caledonian Stadium next season remains to be seen. He could consider a move to MLS, but at 32 his options for movingto the North American game seem limited. You'd also question his desire to come and play in a country he hasn't lived in since he was 7. Still, he could do a job for a number of teams who need help at left back or central defence.
